Key Responsibilities
- Design and route complex RF and microwave PCB layouts from concept through production release.
- Develop PCB stack-ups and select materials appropriate for high-frequency applications.
- Create and optimize transmission lines, RF transitions, connector launches and matching structures.
- Implement RF layout techniques to ensure signal integrity, isolation, shielding and electromagnetic performance.
- Collaborate closely with RF, hardware and simulation engineers to support design implementation and optimization.
- Prepare layouts for electromagnetic simulation and incorporate simulation results into PCB designs.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturing, quality and reliability requirements through DFM/DFT best practices.
- Support prototype bring-up, debugging, qualification and production transfer activities.
- Prepare and maintain PCB design documentation, fabrication and assembly packages.
- Participate in design reviews and drive continuous improvement of PCB design methodologies.
- Support product qualification and regulatory compliance activities, including CE, FCC and other applicable standards.
- For senior roles: conduct layout reviews, define RF layout guidelines and mentor junior designers.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Extensive experience in RF and microwave PCB layout design.
- Advanced proficiency with Cadence Allegro, Siemens/Mentor Xpedition or equivalent PCB design tools.
- Strong understanding of RF transmission line structures, including microstrip, stripline, coplanar waveguide (CPW) and grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW/CPWG).
- Experience designing controlled-impedance PCB layouts and high-frequency interconnects.
- Knowledge of RF routing techniques, including isolation methods, via fencing, stitching, tapering and optimized bends.
- Experience designing RF connector interfaces and layer-to-layer transitions.
- Familiarity with high-frequency PCB materials and stack-up design considerations.
- Understanding of signal integrity, return current paths, grounding, shielding and thermal management principles.
- Ability to interpret and apply electromagnetic simulation results to PCB layouts.
- Knowledge of PCB manufacturing processes, IPC standards and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) practices.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with mixed RF and high-speed digital designs (e.g., DDR, PCIe, SerDes).
- Hands-on experience with electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., HFSS, CST, Sonnet, ADS Momentum).
- Experience with antenna feed networks, phased-array systems or beamforming architectures.
- Familiarity with radar, aerospace, defense, satellite or wireless communication applications.
- Experience with HDI, multilayer and high-density PCB technologies.
- Proficiency in multiple PCB design platforms (e.g., Cadence, Siemens/Mentor, Altium Designer).
- Knowledge of EMC/EMI mitigation techniques and compliance testing.
- Experience supporting regulatory and industry certifications (e.g., CE, FCC, RED, UL, MIL-STD or equivalent).
- Experience mentoring designers and leading PCB layout activities within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
